Log Reader error: The file '<file.bak or file.trn>' is not a backup file.
Description

Selecting a SQL Server 2008 native backup file through Log Reader fails with the following:
The file '<file.bak or file.trn>' is not a backup file.
Cause

The SQL Server 2008 native backup file is compressed and Log Reader currently does not support it.
Resolution

WORKAROUND:
None
STATUS:
This enhancement request has been submitted to the development team for consideration in a future release of Toad for SQL Server or/and LiteSpeed for SQL Server.

Also, please check to see if the backups are compressed. If so, please test with an uncompressed backup file
