Cause
This is likely to be due to incompatibilities between versions of the backup server and the agent running on the Recovery Manager for Exchange (RMEx) machine

Resolution
Ensure that the version of the Arcserve agent running on the RMEx machine is the same as the version of the Arcserve backup server where the backup software is installed.
For example, if the version of Arcserve server is r12.0 SP1 (Build 5582) then the agent installed on RMEx must also be 12.0 SP1 -
