"cscript.exe returned an error code of 1" error message reported in FglAM log. -
Description
There are many "cscript" error messages like the following reported in the FglAM (Foglight Agent Manager) log:.2014-10-21 10:24:16.441 ERROR [Quartz[0]-12] QcnUtil\src\qcn_sysinfo - Execution of external process C:\Windows\system32\cscript.exe returned an error code of 12014-10-21 10:24:16.441 VERBOSE [Thread-29] QcnUtil\src\windows\qcn_runner_windows - Attempting to execute 'C:\Windows\system32\cscript.exe'.When debug is enabled messages like the following are reported:.2014-10-29 12:12:21.825 DEBUG [Thread-873] QcnUtil\src\qcn_sysinfo - STDOUT from external program: CScript Error: Loading script "C:\Windows\TEMP\quest-wmi-query-fjlbaa.vbs" failed (Access is denied. ). -
Cause
Files can't be executed from the C:\windows\temp directory. -
Resolution
RESOLUTION 1: Ignore the error messages. The cscript error messages do not indicate a significant issue. They indicate that FglAM will not be able to report a System ID for the system. This should not cause any serious problems so the messages can be ignored..RESOLUTION 2: Allow files to be executed from the C:\Windows\TEMP directory..RESOLUTION 3: Change the "TMP" environment variable to point to a different location where there is not a restriction on running files. After changing the value of the "TMP" variable the stop and start the FglAM.
