Would you like to run Foglight on a virtual machine. Is this supported?
WORKAROUND:
Yes. Foglight and Foglight for Virtualization Enterprise Edition can run on a virtual machine, however Quest generally recommend using physical systems for the following reasons:
1: Availability in the event of an outage related to the virtual environment. If Foglight is monitoring your virtual environment, and the Foglight server is itself a virtual machine, it will possibly be affected by downtime, events, and issues within the virtual environment. If those events affect the Foglight virtual machine, then Foglight will not be able to provide alerts regarding those events.
2: Performance: Foglight has significant system requirements. Despite the fact that virtualization technologies have improved vastly over the last few years, the virtualization layer still adds additional encumbrances to the system. While these may be minimal, they can also be variable (depending on the underlying host workload), which may negatively affect usability of Foglight for Virtualization Enterprise Edition.
