The SQL Editor window's editing plane or data grid plane is missing.
How do I display both the editing plane and the data grid plane at the same time in the SQL Editor?
One of the planes has been toggled to full screen mode or sized so large that it covers the other one.
WORKAROUND 1: For Toad for Oracle versions 8.x and 9.x:
One of the full screen options is turned on:
- Press F2 to toggle on/off full screen editor.
- Press Shift+F2 to toggle on/off full screen data grid.
Even while the full screen mode is off, one of the planes may be so large that it covers up the other one. Explore mouse cursor around until the cursor turns into the window resize cursor (double vertical arrows).Click and drag to make the current plane smaller so that the other plane shows.
WORKAROUND 2: For Toad for Oracle 8.x versions and below.
Rename the settings file to reset the settings to the default values. Please note this will also reset many other Toad settings.
1. Shut down Toad.
2. Locate the files:
- C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\User Files\Toad.ini
- C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\User Files\Desktops.xml
3. Rename them to Toad.old and Desktops.old.
4. Launch Toad and the settings should be reset.
WORKAROUND 3: For Toad version 9.0 to 9.7.
Rename the EditorLayout_SQL.lay files to reset the settings to the default values:
1. Shut down Toad.
2. Locate the file:
- in Toad 9.0-9.6 C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\User Files\EditorLayout_SQL.lay
- in Toad 9.7 C:\Documents and Settings\<user profile>\Application Data\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\9.7\User Files\EditorLayout_SQL.lay
3. Rename it as EditorLayout_SQL.OLD.
4. Launch Toad and the settings should be reset.
WORKAROUND 4: For Toad 10 and up.
There is a feature called "Split Size Horizontally". This item will auto size the Editor so that there is equal space allocated for the edit control (i.e. the SQL section of the editor) and the bottom docking panels (i.e. the panel with results). The default shortcut is CTRL+F2. This is also available under the Editor menu.
Please also note, a similar workaround to rename the C:\Documents and Settings\<user profile>\Application Data\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\9.7\User Files\EditorLayout_SQL.lay will also work in Toad 10 and up.
