SQL Express has been configured with MMEX but now reaching database limit -
Description
Initially MMEX was installed and configured with the SQL Express database. With higher user mailbox migration in future, and potential higher database usage, is it possible to upgrade the MMEX database to a Standard SQL version? -
Resolution
Yes, it's possible to upgrade MMEX database, residing on the SQL Express edition, by upgrading the SQL Express to the full SQL edition. Moreover, it's not recommended to utilize SQL Express in the production environment. SQL Express is suitable for pilot and lab migration projects only, that are designed to demonstrate product's functionality and testing.
If SQL Express was installed for MMEX in production environment, then it's highly recommended to either:
1) upgrade the SQL Express edition to the full SQL in-place
- or -
2)- stop (disable) all MMEX collections
- migrate MMEX SQL database from SQL Express to the full SQL machine
- using QMM console, Open Project, reconfigure SQL server destination to the new machine
Note: please involve DBA team for all SQL-related tasks

Additional Information
SQL Express database limitation (including transaction log size) is 10GB only. Reaching that limit may result in multiple different errors in MMEX.
