While creating a PST from very large restore criteria, the process stops at 20 GB and may give an error message which says "Maximum Size Has Been Reached".
By Default, Outlook 2003 is limited in the size of PST that can be created. This default size is 20 GB.
By Default, Outlook 2002 and earlier is also limited to 2 GB
Recovery Manager for Exchange uses Outlook to create its PST's
1. Delete the PST that was created in the failed attempt.
2. Open up REGEDIT and make a backup of the Registry.
3. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\PST (If you don't see any of these Keys, they will have to be created manually)
4. Under the PST key, place the following DWORD values.
MaxLargeFileSize
WarnLargeFileSize
MaxFileSize
WarnFileSize
5. The LargeFileSize entries are for UNICODE PST's (Outlook 2003) and the FileSize entries are for Outlook 2002 and before.
6. You will need to decide on the setting you would like, and add this value to each DWORD value, this value will have to be a multiple of 1024.
7. Double-click the DWORD for each setting, set the radio button to Decimal and then add the value from step 6.
8. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\PST (If you don't see any of these Keys, they will have to be created manually)
9. Repeat steps 4 through 7.
10. Close REGEDIT
11. Try to create the PST again.
This has resolved the issue in testing.
It should be mentioned that this is against Microsoft Best Practices because of performance reasons.
