Description
Backups are failing with the error:
"Unable to execute request (111). A communication error has occurred. The handle is invalid"
The logs show RPC communication errors or failures.

Cause
The Forest Recovery Agent checks whether a DHCP lease is valid for every Network Adapter on the DCs every 3 minutes If any of the interfaces do not have a valid lease, the FR Agent will renew the leases for all the interfaces. If there is an interface that cannot get a valid lease (for example one that has an IP address of 169.254.x.x), every 3 minutes the FR Agent will renew the lease of every NIC. This leads to network connectivity loss each time the NICs lease's are renewed which causes an RPC connection issue and the backup fails. -
Resolution
WORKAROUND:
Resolve the issue with a NIC not being able to obtain a valid DHCP lease (such as disabling the NIC if needed).STATUS:
Enhancement request RMADFE-2024 (change the FR Agent behavior so that it does not attempt to renew leases that are valid) has been submitted to Development as is being considered for a 10.x release of RMAD. -
