Error: "The WinRM client cannot complete the operation within the time specified" -
Description
The OCS/Lync Servers and Users task fails with one of the following errors:
"The following error occurred during the processing of a given gathering: Starting a command on remote server failed with the following error message : The WinRM client cannot complete the operation within the time specified. Check if the machine name is valid and is reachable over the network and firewall exception for Windows Remote Management service is enabled. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic"

"The following error occurred during the processing of a given gathering: Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message : The WinRM client cannot complete the operation within the time specified. Check if the machine name is valid and is reachable over the network and firewall exception for Windows Remote Management service is enabled. Cause
The Remote Powershell session to the Lync Pool fails. This can occur if the load balancer does not direct the session to a Front End server. -
Resolution
WORKAROUND:
force a specific Front End server to be returned when the pool name is resovled. Please do the following on the MessageStats server:
- Using Notepad open the "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts" file
- Add the IP address of one of your FE Servers and the name of the Lync Pool
- For example: 10.1.1.1 lynpool.domain.com - Save the changes
- Open a command prompt and type the following command:
- ipconfig /flushdns
