After migrating local and server files to a new computer, files/versions saved in the Version Manager can't be opened. The files are listed correctly in the manager. But when tring to open them, the message explorer gives the following errors:
"<id> <date> <time> Problem with opening file!
<id> <date> <time> Local save of version has failed.
<id> <date> <time> Check Out is not possible!"
Paths to projects are absolute paths noted in the projects.xml file located in the Quest Software\Toad Data Modeler\Installation 7\VersionManager\Server directory. This is one of the files needed for Project Manager, carried over from the other install, and referrs back to a path that may not exist or does not lead to the needed files in the new environment.
Hovering over the error message in the message window will show what path it's trying to access. It most should be a path that no longer applies in the new environment.
WORKAROUND:
Manually adjust the projects.xml file to change the path to the projects.
STATUS:
Waiting for fix in a future version of Toad Data Modeler
From Dev: 4/20/2012
we know about this unpleasant behavior.
Until Beta 4.2.3, paths to projects had been absolute paths, which was changed for Beta 4.2.3. So download the latest Beta or wait a couple of weeks for TDM 4.2 if you do not want to edit XML manually.
