Error, "ERROR 4856: Synatx error" when executing COPY statement in Vertica ODBC -
Description
Toad Data Point throws a syntax error whenever executing a COPY statement in Vertica broken up over multiple lines.
"Error 4856: Syntax error at or near 'EOL' at character 43"

Cause
On any Vertica ODBC connection types, Toad Data Point is not parsing the copy command correctly because Toad does not have a Vertica specific parser in place. -
Resolution
WORKAROUND:
Use the Execute Pass Through option in Editor window. This option will not try to parse to the SQL but just pass straight to the server.

Additional Information
This may not be unique to Vertica and can apply when connected to other platforms. There are no plans to include a Vertica specific parser in Toad at this time.
