The PostgreSQL Agent uses a PostgreSQL user to send read queries to the PostgreSQL server and retrieve metric information. The agent creates a JDBC connection to the database server with connection parameters provided in the Agent Properties. The agent can be run either locally or remotely as long as the user can create a connection to the PostgreSQL server and is permitted to connect from the FglAM host.
Administrative Functions
If Administration is enabled in the agent properties and the Foglight user has the PostgreSQL Administrator role, the user will have access to PostgreSQL Administrative functions in various dashboards and request EXPLAIN and EXPLAIN ANALYZE plans. Operations performed will employ the database Admin user provided in the Agent Properties and be logged to the agent log. The agent can use the same user for both monitoring and administration if that is preferable and the user has the necessary privileges.
