Error during NetWorker recover: "operation is disabled from Passive node of a cluster"

Recovery Manager for Exchange (RME) is installed on Windows Server 2012 and ready in Emulation mode for Exchange 2007.

You are able to see the "list of databases" in NetWorker. When trying to do a Recover or Advanced recover of the Exchange 2007 snapshot backup in the NetWorker Module for Microsoft you see the following error on screen:

NMM Application error:

"Recover... operation is disabled from Passive node of a cluster."

Or

"Advanced Recover... operation is disabled from Passive node of a cluster."

Secure Boot is enabled on the Windows 2012 / Windows 8 machine. Other causes are Snapshot backups are OS dependent and in some cases might not be restored to an older or newer operating system. Some backup software, required to restore backups to a RME machine, is just refusing to install on particular operating systems. For instance, NMM would not install on a client OS like Windows 7. RME depends on Exchange management tools. Major version of Exchange tools should match major version of backed up Exchange server. Officially Microsoft doesn’t support Exchange 2007 SP3 tools on Windows 8/2012.

RESOLUTION 1

1. Disable Secure boot on the Windows 2012 / Windows 8 machine that RME is installed on.

2. Put RME in Emulation mode

3. Start the Recover process from the NetWorker module

RESOLUTION 2

1. Install Recovery Manager for Exchange and the Networker module on the same Operating system that the Exchange server was when the NetWorker snapshot backup was taken.

E.g. Exchange 2007 server was Windows Server 2008, then install and configure RME on Windows Server 2008.

2. Put RME in Emulation mode

3. Start the Recover process from the Networker module.
