The Spotlight xp_readerrorlog procedure never completes and causes 100% CPU on SQL Server 2005 -
Description
Every morning at 3 AM Spotlight runs an XP_Readerror log stored procedure on a SQL Server 2005 instance. However, it appears to never complete and ends up running another xp_readerrorlog the next morning and the issue compounds. After 10 days of this scenario the CPU utilization on the server spikes at 100%. -
Resolution
WORKAROUND 1:
Restart the SQL Server service on the server to prevent the 100% CPU.
WORKAROUND 2:
Disable Error Log Scanning:
1. Right-click the SQL Server 2005 connection | go to properties.2. Click on the Monitoring tab.3. Click the Error Log Entries link.4. Check the box, Override the factory settings | un-check the Enable error log scanning box.5. Click OK.STATUS:Waiting for a fix in a future release of Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise. -
