Sybase MDA default error log match patterns not capturing messages (4228600)

The default error log match patterns may not be able to capture error messages without modifications.

If the regex are edited to do a complete match for the error message line, then the severity level is assigned as expected and alarms are fired.

The Sybase Error Log metric in the Overview page displays 0

WORKAROUND

1. Navigate to Administration | Agents | Agent Status
2. Select the Sybase agent
3. Click the Edit Properties button
4. Click the link to Modify properties for this agent only
5. Click the Edit button next to Message Trap List
6. Change the Error pattern from Error: [0-9]+, Severity: 17, State: [0-9]+   to     Error: [0-9]+, Severity: 17, State: [0-9].+
7. Change the Error pattern from Error: [0-9]+, Severity: 19, State: [0-9]+   to     Error: [0-9]+, Severity: 19, State: [0-9].+
8. Change the Error pattern from Error: [0-9]+, Severity: 20, State: [0-9]+   to     Error: [0-9]+, Severity: 20, State: [0-9].+
9. Change the Error pattern from Error: [0-9]+, Severity: 21, State: [0-9]+   to     Error: [0-9]+, Severity: 21, State: [0-9].+
10. Change the Error pattern from Error: [0-9]+, Severity: 22, State: [0-9]+   to     Error: [0-9]+, Severity: 22, State: [0-9].+
11. Change the Error pattern from Error: [0-9]+, Severity: 23, State: [0-9]+   to     Error: [0-9]+, Severity: 23, State: [0-9].+

This issue has been logged as Defect ID FOM-133 and it has been fixed in the 5.9.7.10 and higher releases of the Sybase cartridge.

WORKAROUND

Add a Error Message Log trap for Severity 0

1. Navigate to Administration | Agents | Agent Status
2. Select the Sybase agent by click the checkbox
3. Edit the properties for the selected Agent
4. Click the line to Modify the properties for this agent
5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Edit button next to Message Trap List

   

6. Scroll down to the bottom of the popup and click the Add Row button

   

7. Paste the following line into the Click to edit(*) line and then press the Enter button on the keyboard
   Error: [0-9]+, Severity: 0, State: [0-9].+  
   the end of the line is shown in the image below, but the full line should be added into the field

   

   

    

8. Click the Save button
9. Return to the Agent Status page
10. Deactivate and Activate the agent
11. Wait a few minutes, the error messages for Severity 0 should be included in the Error Log popup if there are Severity 0 rows in the log.

This issue has been logged as part of defect FOG-5483 and has been fixed in 6.3.1.10 and higher releases of the SAP ASE (Sybase) cartridge.
