When launching Toad from the shortcut or toad.exe I get the "Error reading TtdSQLRecall.HistorySQL: Stream read error" message immediately. No other Toad windows appear. After clicking Ok Toad closes out completely.
Corruption in the SavedSQL.dat file that holds saved SQL and SQL history.
Reset SavedSQL.dat for Toad for Oracle 9.6.1 or Below:
1. Close Toad.
2. Browse to default folder: C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\User Files
3. Locate your SavedSQL.dat file and rename it to SavedSQL.dat.OLD.
4. Re-launch Toad and log on.
5. Check to see if the issue has been resolved.
NOTE: Some older versions of Toad may call the file SavedSQL.xml; follow the same steps to rename and back up the file.
For Toad for Oracle 9.7 or Higher:
1. Close Toad.
2. Browse to default folder: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\9.7\User Files.
3. Locate your SavedSQL.dat file and rename it to SavedSQL.dat.OLD.
4. Re-launch Toad and log on.
5. Check to see if the issue has been resolved.
SQL history and saved SQL may be lost unless a user can manually recover the info from the corrupted .dat file.
