Normally the numbers of files in rim directory are directly proportional to the size of the capture & export queues. When the capture queue has zero or small backlog, the rim directory would normally not be expected to contain a large number of files except when the read process is not done with them. This rim files are periodically removed by SharePlex when the files are no longer needed to conserve space.
The cause of seeing a large number of files in shareplex rim directory despite having zero or small number of messages in the capture queue is that the read process is not yet done with them. This may be due to the read processing having missed its read consistency marker.
Stop and start read to get the read to get a new read consistency marker
Sp_ctrl>stop read
Sp_ctrl> show -- verify that the read has stopped by user
