Error logging into Microsoft Visual Studio Team Services -
Description
In the "Team Coding Status" one may see “Security Status Validated. User is a Team Coding Administrator”, But after that it says "VCS Provider not logged on". -
Cause
The "Alternate Authentication Credentials" in the VSTS account, hasn’t yet been enabled. This is required for Toad to use the REST API. -
Resolution
To enable the "Alternate Authentication Credentials" in the VSTS account:1. When logged into the VSTS account using the webpage.2. In the upper right-hand corner, click on your account button and select “Security” from the drop-down list.3. On the left-hand side menu, select “Alternate authentication credentials”4. Check the “Enable alternate authentication credentials” and enter a username and password for logging into VSTS using an external application. -
Additional Information
The message “Security Status Validated. User is a Team Coding Administrator” in the "Team Coding Status" is an informational message, it lets the user know that he's a member of the TC_ADMIN group. However, that message is supposed to include the user’s username between “User” and “is". That username is pulled from the current database connection object. The fact that it’s blank means it’s not being loaded correctly from the database when the connection is being made. It would help to test using the user TOAD.
