Resolution
This is not a function of LiteSpeed, but is handled by the IBM Tivoli TSM Management Class:A container within the TSM Backup system that defines data retention & number ofversions. There can be, and usually is, different behavior for active & inactive files. Backed-up files &archives are "bound" to a management class that defines this behavior.

Additional Information
TSM server controls deletion of backup objects based on the TSM server’s retention polices. However, those retention polices only take effect on objects with the same name (if a backup retention policy was used) or based on date the backup was taken (if an archive retention policy was used).
If the customer is using LiteSpeed for the backups, the name changes for each backup, none of the backups taken via that Litespeed maintenance plan will ever be deleted if the customer is taking “TSM backups”.If the customer is using the “TSM backup” option they may wish to use the “TSM archive” option with an appropriate management class instead, so that those Litespeed backups are deleted based on date rather than versioned and deleted based on object name.These policies are setup by their TSM admin when the TSM management class is created and can’t not be changed via Litespeed. So the customer should speak with their TSM administrator.
