You recieve the following error when trying to create a virtual snapshot - Cannot create virtual snapshot. Details: Saving virtual machine configuration to shared folder failed."
This is caused when you try to create a second virtual snapshot of a domain controller in the same directory location where a virtual snapshot already exists. A vm_config.cfg file already exists and can not be overwritten.
There can be several workarounds for this issue.
1. Delete the snapshot that is in the directory location and re-run the backup again to create a new virtual snapshot.
2. Move the already existing virtual snapshot to another location and re-run the backup again to create a new virtual snapshot.
3. Change the location where virtual snapshots are being created - Right click on the collection and choose properties -> Select the virtual snapshot tab and input a new unc directory path to store the virtual snapshot. Then re-run the backup again to create a new virtual snapshot.
4. In the collection properties -> virtual snapshot tab, add the %DATETIME% expression to the end of the unc path where virtual snapshots are going to be stored. This will create a new directory according to the date and time the backup is run each and every the backup is run.
