While trying to register a restore source Recovery Manager is in a state of "Emulation started. Waiting for connection from backup application. Waiting for next backup set". On the Veritas Backup Exec server, the backup begins to run and fails out with a communication error in the job history log.
This is a problem that occurs when the path to the Exchange settings under the restore properties on the Veritas Backup Exec server is set to a local path on the Veritas server instead of a local path on the Recovery Manager for Exchange system. The restore job properties page can be found under Settings | Exchange. The setting is: "Temporary location for log and patch files" (Exchange 2000/2003).
For example if Recovery Manager for Exchange is installed a computer with one drive (C:\) and has a folder named TEMP. On the Veritas Backup Exec server the setting: "Temporary location for log and patch files" could be C:\TEMP or any other folder on that C drive, since its the only existing drive.
