How to create standalone msi package for Active Directory, Exchange 5.5/2000/2003, SQL or SMS res (4210636)

What is the best way of performing a resource updating in a distributed migration project model with the remote sites administered locally?

First the corresponding task needs to be created:

1. On the Tasks page in Project Manager, select the option you need (Active Directory Processing, Exchange 5.5/2000/2003, SQL or SMS).

2. Configure the task and select Save Task Configuration option. Task will then appear under Tasks node.

3. Assign delegates by right-clicking on the task and selecting Delegate option. Please note that only administrators listed there will be able to run this task.

4. You can modify objects selected. By default the task will be executed using information about all migrated objects. If you want to change this, select task and click on Select Objects to Process Resources. This will give you an option to create custom map for this task.


Creating MSI package:

1. Right-click the task and select Create Setup.

2. Click Advanced and select the replica of the ADAM instance that contains your migration project.

3. Specify the output folder for the package.

4. Select the type of the MSI installation package:

a) Containing the task configuration only - for Administrators with Migration Manager already installed.
b) Containing the task configurationwith executables needed to run the task - for Administrators without Migration Manager installed.

6. Click Start.

When you have successfully created the task setup package, pick the MSI file at the specified folder and send it to the delegated administrator. The delegated administrator then should install the package and perform the resource processing as specified in the task configuration.

NOTE: The delegated administrator will need to have permissions within QMM project in order to connect to ADAM project and generate ini mapping file. Also he will be able to change the configuration of the task. In order to limit this capability the task needs to be configured differently:

1. In Project Manager go to Tools | Export to | INI File.
2. Select the required wizard on the drop down menu.
3. Configure repermissioning options. These are the options that remote Administrator will not be able to change.
4. Select Create Setup for this task checkmark and browse to the location where msi package will be saved.
The corresponding INI file will be generated at the moment of task creation and then resource updating job will be solely based on the settings in that ini file. It will not connect to ADAM and update only those objects that were migrated at the moment of task creation. More detailed instructions can be found in the KB 15262:
