Description:
How to restore old data into an existing Domino mail file or database
Symptoms:
In some circumstances, users may wish to retrieve old documents (ie ones that have been deleted) from a domino mail file or user database, while preserving the current version of the same mail file or database. This is a brief description of the method to use for this.
This method also provides a workaround for problems with the rename/restore issues in some versions of the APM.
1) Make sure the database or mailbox is not in use.
2) In the lotus notes server console do a 'dbcache flush'
3) Rename 'test' file to safe_test.nsf in the filesystem (the physical name of the file is irrelevant to replication, it is the REPID that is important, so this is not breaking the replication relationships)
4) Using Netvault restore fulls + incrementals of test.nsf with new DBID and REPID and set the PIT recovery to the time of the last incremental backup.
5) Once the restore process has completed, manually copy any required documents from test.nsf to safe_test.nsf
6) In the lotus notes server console do a "dbcache flush"
7) Remove test.nsf
8) Rename safe_test.nsf -> test.nsf
