Description:
"A SQL Server APM Backup Job fails with Backup index has exceeded the maximum size, so this backup will fail. Please split the backup job"

This is caused by selecting All Instances on a large SQL Server Database environment with many databases. In this case, the index file to track all items, exceeds 4GB. You will need to break up the job.

When breaking this SQL Server APM Backup Job into two or more backup jobs, make sure that one of the Sub-jobs created off the backup job that is failing has the Selections tab defined in the following way:

- After Opening the SQL Server APM on the Selections Tab of the Job Definition, place a check mark by All Instances
- Double click on All Instances and manually exclude the databases that you want to exclude from this backup job, by marking these databases with a Red X.
- Complete all other job definitions on the Selection tab and all other tabs before saving this job.

Note:
The steps above allows for this job to backup the currently selected databases and all new databases that are going to be created on this server in the future.

The 4 GB index size limitation will be eliminated in Netvault version 8.6.
