VMware backup fails after upgrading the Netvault Backup Software.
Date: 02/25/2011
Product & Version: Netvault 8.5.*
OS Version: VMware ESX all versions
Module & Version: VMware 2.0
Application version:
Symptoms:
Upgrade of the Netvault Software causes VMWare backups to fail.
Binary logs show the following messages;
Information <Date> <Time>0 0 Data Plugin <Server-name> Starting Program '<Drive Letter>:/Program Files/BakBone Software/NetVault/bin/nvvmwmount.exe'
Warning <Date> <Time> 0 Data Plugin <Server-name> Failed with exit code 1
The cause of the failure, (Exit code 1), and the failure to mount the VM, appears to be from the upgrade of the Netvault Software\bin directory.
This is a known issue and is mentioned within the release notes of the VMWare Plugin version 2.0.

Cannot Browse Mounted Windows Virtual Machines after NVBU Upgrade - If the NVBU software is upgraded after installing the VMware Plugin, it is necessary to reinstall the VMware Plugin on the NVBU Client. If this is not done, it will not be possible to open the Drives node of a mounted virtual machine for any new file-level backups.
Reinstall the VMWare Plugin once again upon the NVserver or NVclient where you have it located and check the plugin configuration, reconfigure plugin if necessary.
