Symptoms:
An oracle RMAN backup fails with the following error messages in the Netvault Log:
Information 2008/09/03 11:48:40 52 Data Plugin UKWK1116 RMAN-00554: initialization of internal recovery manager package failed
Information 2008/09/03 11:48:40 52 Data Plugin UKWK1116 RMAN-04005: error from target database:
Information 2008/09/03 11:48:40 52 Data Plugin UKWK1116 ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
Warning 2008/09/03 11:48:40 52 Data Plugin UKWK1116 Failed with exit code 1
The Oracle credentials are correct and the user can log in via SQLPlus.

Cause
When the SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES is set to NONE, there is no operating system authentication for the Oracle login, and the Oracle Password file must be used.

Resolution
There are a number of reasons for this error can occur, this covers a specific instance:
- Check the sqlnet.ora file for the line reading:SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE), if there is one, comment it out if possible so it reads:
#SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE)- then check that the Oracle APM is configured with "Use Oracle Password Authentication" selected.
In NVBU go to Backup > Open the Oracle client > right click the Oracle APM > Configure > tick "Use Oracle Password Authentication"
