OS Version: Microsoft Windows 2000 & 2003
Application version: Microsoft Exchange 200 & 2003
Plugin version: Microsoft Exchange Mailbox 1.8xx and greater
Description:
Microsoft Exchange Mailbox backup completes, but there are many warning messages indicating that certain folders could not be backed up.
Symptoms:
The warning messages take the form:
“Failed to back up folder ‘[Folder name]’ in ‘[folder location]’ “
Reason:
This problem usually occurs due to MAPI resource limitations.
Microsoft hotfixes 843523 & 887828 address memory leaks in MAPI and may be appropriate. These hotfixes are included in SP2 for Windows 2003. They can also be found at Microsoft’s support homepage.
Additionally, a workaround is to break the one job into two or more smaller jobs to limit the resources used during each backup. WARNING - when new mailboxes are added to the Exchange server, Selection Sets must be modified or created to ensure that all mailboxes are backed up.
