How to create, add or assign Media Group labels.
For more information on this topic, please see the Module 3 Advanced Administration Part One-Web-based Training
There are 3 ways to create/add or assign a Media group.
Method A:
To label an individual media and/or add it to a group, perform the following steps:
1. Open the Device Management window. On the Devices tab right-click the drive/slot that contains the media, and select Properties. This opens the Media Properties window.
2. NetVault: Backup provides two default labels for a media – the Media
Barcode, and a string combining the NetVault: Backup Server Name and
Date. To assign one of these as the media label, select it in the Media Label list. To assign a user defined label, enter the string in the box.
3. To add the media to a group, select the group label in the Group Label list. To create a new group and add the media to it, enter (type) the group label in the box.
This procedure can also be performed from the Media Management Module.
You can only change/re-label tapes that are BLANK. You cannot change the group label on a tape that still has active data on it.
Method B:
Performing Bulk Media Labeling and /or Grouping
To bulk label and/or group all the media in a library, perform the following steps:
1. Open the Device Management window. On the Devices tab, right-click the library that contains the target media, and select Bulk Label. This opens the Bulk Label Media window.
2. Under Type of Media to Label, select the media types to label from the
following categories:
* Blank – Select this check box to label any blank, non-labeled media in a
device that is currently accessible to the NetVault: Backup Server.
* Other – Select this check box to bulk label media types that do not belong to any category listed here.
* NetVault – Select this check box to label any media that was used to
backup data with NetVault: Backup
* Reusable – Select this check box to label media marked as reusable.
3. Under Type of Label, select one of the following:
* Barcode – Select this option to use the barcode as media label.
* Machine and Date – Select this option to use NetVault: Backup Server
name and date as label.
* User – For a user-defined label, select User and enter the following
details:
* Label – Enter the string to be used as media label. NetVault: Backup
does not support a % character in the string.
* Seed – In addition to the string, a sequential number is also added to
the media label for unique identification. Enter the starting number for
the sequence in the Seed box. The number will be increment for each
media. If the box is left blank, NetVault: Backup will start numbering
the media from 1. The Seed does not apply to VTL media.
4. To add the media to a group, select the group label in the Group Label list or enter the name for a new group in the box.
5. Select the media for labeling. Use Shift+Click/Ctrl+Click to select multiple media in the list. To label all media in the list, select the All Media in List check box.
6. In the Enter ‘LABEL’ to Confirm Request box, enter LABEL (case
insensitive) to confirm bulk labeling.
7. Click OK.
Method C:
Allowing the Backup Job to assign the Group label to a tape:
Configuring Backup Media Options
To configure the backup media options, perform the following steps:
1. In the Backup window, click the Target tab.
2. To select the target media, configure the following option under media Option:
Group Label – Select this option to use media associated with a particular media group. Then, if the group already exists, you can select the group label in the drop-down list next to the option. You also can type in any Group label you want to have the job create a new Group label.
You have to select the "Automatically Label Blank Media" under
Media Options if you want the backup job to label the tape for you.
