Description: NDMP restore to Netapp filer fails with Bad header block.
Symptoms: After the restore is submitted it fails almost immediately as follows:
Information 2006/08/08 09:48:10 416 Data Plugin netvault1 NDMP: NORMAL 0: RESTORE: Bad header block.
Information 2006/08/08 09:48:10 416 Data Plugin netvault1 NDMP: NORMAL 0: RESTORE: Could not initialize media.
Information 2006/08/08 09:48:10 416 Data Plugin netvault1 NDMP: NORMAL 0: RESTORE: RESTORE IS ABORTED
Error 2006/08/08 09:48:10 416 Data Plugin netvault1 Data operation halted due to unrecoverable internal NDMP server error

Resolution
This problem is caused by a discrepancy between where the restore data is on the tape and where the NetVault database thinks the restore data is. The key is the informational entry in the log stating “Bad Header Block”. If this is the data it can be restored from the filer itself using the a manual restore from the filer its self.
