Description:
Explanation of why we do not backup Oralce temporary tablespaces.
When browsing the Oracle instance with either the Oracle Online or Oracle RMAN APMs, temporary tablespaces are not listed.
The APMs only register the tablespaces listed within the views "v$datafile" or "dba_data_files", temporary table spaces created within an Oracle instance are listed exclusively with the views "v$tempfile" or "dba_temp_files".
Any tablespace created with a type of TEMP is not available to be backed up. This is defined by Oracle. When reconstructing a database from a backup in a disaster recovery scenario, Oracle will recreate the required TEMP tablespaces when the database is started or opened.
