Description:
Backup job fails immediately with error in logs showing "Fatal error: Failed to start plugin".
Cause:
This error is generally encountered with Client backups. There are a number of reasons why this may occur. One is that network access to the target Client can not be established. Another reason for this error is that the backup selection tree used for the job is not valid. Recent changes to the Client (e.g. Client name, file system structure, etc...) is resulting in an invalid argument when the job is attempting to process a previously created Selection Set. Job configurations are hard coded into the NetVault Database and will not reflect certain changes made to a Client.
-Be sure that the Client is still reachable. Perform a Check Access from Client Management. Try to browse the Client from the Backup window.
-For the existing job, right click Edit/View.
-Check the Modify box at the bottom of the Selections window.
-Expand the Client in question and be sure that the selection tree is selected from the correct Client. And that target directories (to be backed up) exist.
-Make necessary changes to correct this.
