Backup fails with "Fatal error processing children of XXXXXXXXX" log messages.
"Fatal error processing children of" messages can be caused by the following:
-- Incorrect file permissions on the shares named in the log's error messages.
-- Incorrect or non-existent folder paths specified in the job's Backup Selection Set.
-- Network connection drops between the NVBU Server and the Client.
For more information on this topic, please see the Administration Module 2-Basic Operation of NetVault Backup-Web-based Training
For incorrect file permissions on the shares named in the log's error messages:
- Verify that the user account under which the NetVault service runs on the Client does have permissions to access all of the files and folders specified in that job's Backup Selection Set of data.
For incorrect or non-existent folder paths specified in the job's Backup Selection Set:
- Open a new Backup window to the Selections tab and click "Load", then choose the problematic job's Backup Selection Set name.
- Check the "Modify" box and drill down to see the current choices that are selected.
- If any of the current selections have red a "X" by them, those paths are no longer available and should be unchecked, as the data isn't there.
- Then choose "Save As" and specify the same Backup Selection Set name that was previously being used.
- This will overwrite the previous selection set, telling jobs that use it to only use these new folder selections thare are actually available.
For network connection drops between the NVBU Server and the Client:
- Verify that the network connection to both machines is up and stable during the entire backup window.
