Description:
When Oracle is not using a Recovery Catalog, it stores the information about backups in the control file. With control file autobackup enabled, this will cause the control file to be backed up several times during the course of an Oracle backup. If there is a second drive available, it will load a second tape into that drive, and do the control file backup to a second tape.
Symptoms:
Oracle RMAN backups are using too many tapes. -
Resolution
You must configure your Oracle job to use a Target Set that will only allow the use of a single drive. You must also configure the CLI Backup Target Set in the Oracle APM configure window with the same Target Set name. -
