Description: System logs reporting Nvdevmgr; "trap divide error".
Symptoms:
The system event log reporting "kernel: nvdevmgr[12853] trap divide error rip:8070048 rsp:ff84ff48 error:0"
In the Netvault dump directory, .dmp files are created The .dmp file reports "read header from disk" as the step that's current at the point of failure. No errorsare reported within the binary logs. No Backups utilizing the VTL are seen as failed.
Cause:
Further investigations lead to the conclusion that these errors are occuring when certain tapes in the VTL are accessed.
It was found that these VTL tapes were being used by another backup application called esxranger.
Netvault Backup Software does not support running in parallel with any other Backup applications.
Tapes that are damaged can be blanked, but first it should be established if any backups on the tape are spanned backups, as the saveset will need to be expired before the tape is blanked to prevent orphaned backup segments remaining on other tapes.
