Symptoms:
Failed to seek to record at -2XXXXXXXXX in table 'Backup'
The problem is that the netvault/db/MediaDatabase/Records/Backup file has become larger than 2GB. Currently the only way to get the Backup file down, once it has reached 2GB in size is to restore the Media Manager and Backup Indexes portions of the NetVault database from a backup. If you have not been compacting the NetVault database when you do NetVault database backups, compacting the Media Database should bring the size down significantly. You can then configure your NetVault database backups to compact the database to avoid the problem in the future.
If you have been compacting the media database, you can then remove tapes or backups from the Media Database and then compact the Media Database with the "nvmeddbcheck force" command to reduce the size further. For any tapes that are outside of the library, you can right click on in media management and select remove. If a tape is in the library, you will need to ensure it is in a slot, then right click on the library in device management and select open door to bring it offline first.
Most backups will put between 1KB and 20KB of data in this file, but Windows 2008 and Windows 2003R2 File system backups that include system state are taking up a great deal more space. If the System State files are backed up separately from the file system, the backup file does not grow inordinately. So the current work around is to create a separate backups, one for System State and one for regular file backup.
