Affected NV Version: NetVault:Backup 7.x and greater
OS Version: All supported Linux and Unix platforms
Plugin version: N/A
Application version: N/A
Description: NetVault service will not start
Symptoms:
Attempting to start the NetVault 7.x service on a Unix machine results in the following message:
"Failed to connect to NetVault kernel"
This message indicates that the NetVault service is not running
Typing the following: 'ps -e | grep nv' shows no NetVault processes running. Starting the NetVault service in NetVault Configurator starts the service but then it stops 2 seconds later.
Firstly, NetVault has to be installed when logged in as root and also needs to be run as root.
Then, renaming the MACHINES.DAT file in netvault/etc to machines.old and starting NetVault services can often fix this problem. The NetVault service should be able to start.
If this does not resolve the problem, the Quest Support Team will need more diagnostics.
