Backup of virtual machine mounted on VCB Proxy fails with "Corrupt selection tree" or backs up wr (4044120)

Symptoms:
The user has a VCB Proxy configured and expands the VMware plugin on it to reveal Windows virtual machines. He then right-clicks and mounts them to be able to select individual files on this virtual machine for backups and runs this backup job. It either fails with the messages "Corrupt selection tree - root filesystem node not found" and "Invalid selection tree", or the backup completes, but actually backs up files from a different virtual machine (evident in the message "The target VM for this backup job is 'VM-Wrong' uuid '#####').
