Description: How to configure the exchange mailbox plugin

Symptoms: Exchange Mailbox backup/restore not working

Configuring the mailbox plugin:

Create Special User within Domain (will refer to as UserX) and assign to these groups:

Administrators
Backup Operators
Domain Admin
Exchange Domain Servers

Assign UserX the following Rights:

Log on as Service
Log on Locally
Act as Part of the OS

If Exchange Server is a DC then assign these additional rights:
Domain Policies
Domain Controller

From Microsoft Website download a utility PROFMAN2.EXE (Can also do a Google Search for it) and copy it to your exchange server.

From the Exchange Server login as UserX and run the PROFMAN2 utility. NOTE: It is critical that you are logged in as this user.

Select the “Create new profile” icon (one in with a person’s head in upper left corner)
Give your profile a name anything will do.

Highlight your new profile and select the “Add service to selected profile” (icon with a nut and bolt) and select MSEMS and hit “OK”. Another box will popup and you put in your exchange server name and UserX mailbox name, leave everything else at default.

Select the “Check Name” to verify that it works correctly. If it comes back with error that name can not be resolved then you did something incorrectly and DO NOT PROCEED until name can be resolved.

IMPORTANT; Close Profman utility and log UserX out of Exchange Server!

If you have not already done so install Exchange Mailbox plugin from client manager on the Exchange Server.

Open up NetVault Backup window, right click on Exchange plugin and select to configure it using UserX. Also input Exchange Server name the same way you created the mapi profile. Select “Set Only”.

It should now work.
