"WCSERROR: WCS configuration invalid" Errors. (4042583)

Description:
When the Workstation Client software is not configured on a NetVault: Backup 8.2.2 (Build 29) an error appears in the operating system event log indicating WCS Configuration is invalid.


Symptoms:
The following error appears in the operating system event log:
"WCSERROR: WCS configuration invalid"

This issue is resolved in NVBU 8.5. After upgrading the server and clients to 8.5, you should no longer receive this error. If you are unable to upgrade to 8.5, then please perform the following steps:

If NetVault: Backup Workstation Client is not used on the machine where the errors are logged, perform the following.

Edit "C:\Program Files\BakBone Software\NetVault\config\nvwcshadower.cfg"

Find the section:
[Data Management:Read Configuration Frequency]
Value=180

Change it to:
[Data Management:Read Configuration Frequency]
Value=86400

The message "WCSERROR: WCS configuration invalid'" indicates NetVault: Backup Workstation Client is not configured correctly. The change above will result in the WCSERROR error occurring only once daily (every 86400 seconds), and the error can be ignored on machines where NetVault: Backup Workstation Client is not used.

To lengthen the interval to longer than one day, increase the "Value" for "[Data Management:Read Configuration Frequency]".
86400 = 1 day
172800 = 2 days
345600 = 4 days
604800 = 7 days
