Stand-by NetVault Server -
Description
In the event of a disaster recovery scenario where a site may want to have a secondary NetVault Server on standby, please follow these guidelines, but please note, certain restrictions will apply. -
Cause
Your primary site's NetVault Server has crashed and you need another site ready to be able to restore or continue backups with the least amount of downtime. -
Resolution
Please follow these prerequisites when setting up a Secondary/Disaster Recovery (DR) NetVault Server:
- At time of install, Machine OS, NetVault Server name, and NetVault Server release MUST BE identical to primary
- Shut down the main NV Server and install the primary
- If applicable, add storage device, container, VTL to standby server
- You would not need a second license since the server will be offline, however, keep in mind that the NV Server license will expire after 30 days. In the event that the main NV Server crashes, you will need to then make sure that you have a standby license available by requesting a "Change of Machine ID" request from licensing, which will give you a new key. This will need to be applied after you bring the standby server online
- Also, keep in mind that if after DR is complete and you want to move back to your primary site, then you will once again need to apply your original license from the main server, but only after you have restored what you need to get your environment back online.
