This is a guide that walks through the installation of NetVault SmartDisk onto a Windows Server OS.
Be sure prior to installation that you validate the system requirements for a NetVault SmartDisk installation. A complete list of these requirements can be found here:
https://support.quest.com/SolutionDetail.aspx?id=SOL87394
Once you have validated that you meet the following requirements and have access to the NetVault SmartDisk installer, you can proceed with the installation.
1. Double click the Setup.exe that is located in the SmartDisk folder.
2. At the welcome screen click Next.
3. At the Licensing Agreement select 'I Agree' and Next.
4. The next screen asks for a user account to run the NVSD services. The installer gives you a choice to create the user or have the executable do this for you, DO NOT create the user on your own. Here specify a new user specifically for the NetVault services and password and the executable will create it on its own. This account can be local if the Domain field is left blank. Chances are excellent that if you create one on your own and reference it on this screen the installer will either not locate it, or fail to connect to it later on, again you will want to allow the installer to create the account for you. Once the account is specified, click Next.
5. The next screen confirms that you want to create the specified account, if so choose 'Yes' and then click Next.
6. Here you select the location you wish to install the application at. Once the location is specified click Next.
7. This screen asks you to specify the location of the 'Staging Folder' used for the post-process portion of the deduplication process, this can be local or remote. If you select 'Remote' and click Next you will be prompted to select the remote location. If you pick "Local" and click Next the path will default to the local NetVault directory, you can specify a different local directory here if you wish. Click Next.
8. Same as with the Staging Folder you will be asked where you would like to store the data that is backed up, is this primary store where the bulk of your data is stored. Similarly as before you can specify a local or remote directory and click Next. After which you will be asked to specify the remote or local directory and click Next again.
9. The WebDAV authentication is not asking if you would like to install it, which you will want to install it. Make sure "Yes" is selected and click Next.
10. This is the credential that will be used for WebDAV and it needs to be named WebDAV. The username that WebDAV will look for is WebDAV, so you will need to make sure that you specify the username as WebDAV, the password portion however is at your discretion. This is the account that you will use to authenticate to the NVSD as a repository. Click Next.
11. The Wizard prompts you to confirm your installation, if you are ready to proceed click Next.
12. Once the Wizard completes you'll get a message stating that it has been installed, and you'll want to click Finish to close the installer.
This completes the installation of the software, make sure you also apply your license to the server. The following KB article references how to perform that piece of the setup:
