Cannot create a remote object - Access is denied -
Description
When attempting to install the online restore agent during an agent-based restore, you receive the following error:
Cannot create a remote object - Access is denied.
The user is a domain administrator with all the required rights on the domain controller. -
Cause
DCOM Issues. -
Resolution
Verify the following on both the DCs and the RMAD server:
1. Run DCOMCNFG.
2. Expand the Component Services and Computers nodes.
3. Right-click "My Computer" and select Properties.
4. Under the "Default Properties" tab, make sure the checkbox "Enable Distributed COM on this computer" is checked.
5. Under the "COM Security", "Access Permissions" tab, select "Edit Default...".
6. Make sure there are no "Deny" permissions for the domain administrators, or any group they may be a member of.
7. Select the "Edit Limits..." button under "Access Permissions".
8. Make sure that the domain administrators have all the "Allow" permissions within this section.
9. Repeat steps 5-8 for the "Launch and Activation Permissions" section.
