To Manage Restrictions for devices in the KACE Cloud, please follow the process detailed in the video and accompanying steps below.
Restriction management allows an admin to enable and disable settings that affect device functionality, security and privacy, internet, media, and more. Restriction sets are created in the Restrictions Library and can be applied to single or multiple devices.
In the restrictions library, an admin can add a new Android- or iOS-specific restriction set; edit or remove a restriction set; create default restriction sets; or view all devices with a specific restriction set applied. See Library view below.
In the Devices section, an admin can choose a single device or multiple devices, then in the right panel Restrictions tab, view all restrictions currently applied on the device(s); view effective restrictions only, or view details for a single restriction set. See Devices view below.
Note: As of the December 2018 release , existing restrictions can no longer be managed individually on single devices in KACE Cloud. To create and manage device-level restrictions, administrators will need to create a new restriction set using the 'Add New' workflow in the Restrictions Library, then apply it to the device(s) using the 'Add New' workflow in the Devices section.
Note: The 'Allow use of camera' restriction can be changed in the Android device restrictions section within the KACE Cloud Portal. However, even if an admin chooses not to allow the use of the camera on a work profile, an end user can still access the camera on the device using a personal profile.
Standard Functions
A Restriction Set is a grouping of multiple restrictions that are created, named, and saved as a single set, then applied to devices. Restriction sets are created and managed in the restrictions library.
Effective restrictions represent all active restrictions on a specific device. In the case of multiple restriction sets being applied to a device, the strictest among them will be enforced.
An admin can set default restrictions that will be applied to all newly enrolled devices. The process is the same for both iOS and Android devices.
This will open up a view of all OS-specific restriction sets in the library.
A restriction set can only be edited in the library—it cannot be edited from the individual devices view.
Caution: In the former workflow (pre-January 2019), restriction management for individual devices was managed in the Devices section. Admins can now create, organize, and manage new restriction sets in the Restrictions Library—these restrictions can then be applied to individual or multiple devices.
Removing a restriction set from the library will also remove it from any devices on which it was installed.
