About Amazon Web Services (AWS) and KACE Systems Management Appliance (SMA) -
Description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) encompasses hundreds of offerings. Two covered by this article are EC2 and VMware Cloud.
- VMware Cloud: Supported - as with any other hosting solution offering a supported platform in line with our system requirements.
- EC2: Not Supported.
Amazon's VMware Cloud offering is cloud hosted VMware ESXi (similar to our own KaaS offering). EC2 is a proprietary virtualization platform that cannot support the SMA and is unsupported by Quest KACE.

Resolution
Currently supported Virtual Machine platforms for the KACE Systems Management Appliance:
For VMWare installations:- SMA 14.0 runs on FreeBSD 14.0 supported on VMware ESX®/ESXi™ 8.0 and later.
- Open Virtualization Format (OVF) 1.0
For Microsoft Hyper-V installations:- Windows Server 2019 with Hyper-V
- Windows Server 2022 with Hyper-V
For Nutanix installations:
- Nutanix AOS 5.20.1.1 (LTS) or later

For Cloud Solutions:- KaaS (Kace as a Service) - hosted in a partner datacenter. More info here.
- Microsoft Azure - hosted in Azure, it is available in the marketplace as bring your own license. Can be obtained here.
