How to view BLOB data in the data grid? When the query is run, no specific data is shown in the results data grid.
BLOB is for Binary data. The data stored here could be any kind of file or format, e.g. an executable, a pdf, a word doc, some proprietary format, etc. Toad has no way of knowing what the data is and so there is no way to directly display the actual data from within Toad.
Double click on the field in Toad's data grid with the BLOB data you would like to view. This will open a "BLOB Edit" window. In the toolbar, choose to either save, or to view as hex/text.:
1. View Data As Hex or Text:
This opens up a viewer window but only displays as hex or text.
2. Save to File/Save to File and Open:
This opens a Save As prompt allowing the file to be saved. When saving the file, specify the type/extension. This file can then be accessed manually, or Toad will try to open the file in the appropriate application based off the noted file type. If the file type/extension is not specified or not recognized when using the "Save to File and Open" option, a Open With prompt will come up allowing you to choose the application to open the file in.
