Expanding the size of partitions

After you increase the size of the drive, if the appliance has been previously powered on, you need to use the appliance’s Console Program to resize the partition.


	NOTE: You can only expand the size of a partition, not shrink it.

In this procedure, you need to select a Foglight appliance partition by its device name. The following table lists the types of appliances available and the device names assigned to appliance’s virtual disks and partitions. The APM Appliance contains two virtual disks, one for the Archiver and one for the Management Server.

To configure the size of the partition on a resized virtual disk:

With the appliance running, click Open Console.

vSphere® opens a console window.

At the log in prompt, log in with your user credentials (created the first time you configured the appliance).

Select Advanced Settings, then More Advanced Settings.

Depending on the appliance type, you may see options named Resize the Foglight Partition, or Resize the Archiver Partition, or both. Select the option that matches the appliance you modified in Expanding the size of virtual disks.

A confirmation message appears.

To continue, select Yes.

The Console Program shuts down all Foglight services and unmounts the partition. A YAST® disk script launches and displays its own warning message.

To continue, select Yes.

In the YAST window, complete the following steps to resize the partition.

a

In the Expert Partitioner screen, press Tab to navigate to Available Storage.

Locate the appliance’s Virtual Disk Device Name and verify that the size of the virtual disk matches the size you specified in Expanding the size of virtual disks.

Select the appliance’s Partition Device Name and press Enter.

Select Resize (press Alt+I).

In the Resize Partition window, select Maximum Size (recommended) or enter a size that is between the existing size and the maximum size.

When prompted for confirmation, select Confirm (press Alt+N).

YAST extends the partition.

In the Expert Partitioner screen, select Finish (press Alt+F).

The YAST window closes. The Console Program automatically remounts the volume and restarts Foglight services.

Exit the Console Program.
