SCOM Management

SCOM Management Pack setup question. Do have to install Diagnostic Server on the same box where we have SCOM management server ?

Getting an error : "Cannot find type [Dell.Diagnostic.Server.SCOM.DSUtilities...] make sure the assembly containing this type is loaded"

This is both console and management server as there are functions we need to perform from both the SCOM console as tasks such as acknowledging and snoozing alarms and discovery which would typically be done via the management server.  Binaries shipped with the management pack are required to tie these functions together and must be located in a known location which is done via the environment variable. SCOM is console in this context - where the Spotlight client would be launched from via a SCOM console task. Having the Spotlight client on the same machine as either the management server or the console is not required to retrieve connection and alarm info. If installed on the same machine as the SCOM console, it allows deeper diagnosis into conditions around why certain alarms were raised and is certainly an optional install.

SCOM management server and DSs would be on separate machines. The SCOM management server via our management pack discovery script connects to the DS via a webapi through port 40403 and retrieves connections and alarm information from the remote Diagnostic server/s. 

The remote windows computer is not being monitored with an agent and is in fact “agentless” – being monitored by a management group - as indicated in this video clip https://www.spotlightessentials.com/spotlight/scom/install-video

Ensure the user on the management server is part of the “Spotlight Diagnostic Administrator” group on the remote; credentials must match between the management server and the remote DS.
