When registering a storage from a backup you're able to see the Exchange backup listed and expand the mailboxes and folders however when you open a message you see:
"Undefined MAPI error. Detailed description is not available"
When you try to restore any of these messages to PST you get this error:
"An error occured while processing the message with subject "<Subject>" from "<Registered Storage>". Details: Undefined MAPI error. Detailed description is not available
Would you like to skip this message and continue?"
You also notice that you are able to open messages in the Drafts folder, just not in any other folder.
1. Open Regedit on the Recovery Manager for Exchange Server
2. If using OUtlook 2010 goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\PST
Note: Depending on what Outlook version you're using the location may be different. E.g it could be 11.0 or 12.0
3. Change the value in DisablePSTGrow from 1 to 0.
4. Close and Reopen Recovery Manager for Exchange and confirm you can open messages
If DisablePST is present it will be found in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\PST.
