Enabling Application Consistent Quiescing on the VMWare Plugin

To perform applications consistent backups of virtual machines running programs running active databases, quiescing is required for snapshotting these systems. Among the server applications that requires such approach include SQL Server, Active Directory, Exchange, Lotus Notes, among others. Not enabling quiescing could lead to unexpected behavior such as the application getting temporarily frozen when taking or removing the snapshot.

Quiescing can be set for virtual machine protected with NetVault plugin for VMware with the purpose of allowing application consistent backups:

1. Expand the VMware backup Selection Set.
2. Click the name of the VM that should be quiesced, then select Set Backup Preferences from the contextual menu.
3. Enable Quiesce virtual machine for snapshot.
4. Press the [✔️OK] button.
5. Press the [Save] button.
