SDA Performance (4323002)

Image deployments are slow.

There are multiple reasons why a deployment can be slow. If you feel that the performance on the KSDA is slow, please go through the suggestions in the "Resolution" section.

1. Check the speed of your hard drive, 5400 RPM drives (or "green" drives) deploy slower than a 7200 RPM drive.
2. Set your switches and KSDA manually to 1000 Mbps full-duplex, removing it from Auto-negotiate, we have found that this helps in many environments.
3. Check the system image detail page and uncheck "Include debug output in log"  With this checked, the KSDA has to append this log file with everything it is doing for each machine, so this will slow down deployment tremendously.
4. If your KSDA (or RSA) is virtual, make sure you have set the NIC set to be e1000.  See the 

   Change VMWare Server NIC to e1000 for complete instructions.

5. If your KSDA (or RSA) is virutal, make sure that VMWare tools is installed.
6. Upgrade to 4.0 as that has optimizations that speed up deployments. 
7. Upgrade to 4.0 to take advantage of Native Imaging (WIM and ASR) instead of K-Image. .
8. If you are using offboard storage with a physical appliance, use the KSDA's second network port to directly connect to the NAS device. See this KB for details: Connecting an existing external storage device directly to the KSDA".
